Between 33% and 50% of people over the age of 65 suffer from loss of mobility1,
but joint pain can occur much earlier, depending on lifestyle and physical activity.
In response to growing demand for solutions to relieve joint pain, Ingredia launched Xelflex® in 2025, a naturally sourced bioactive ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties.
What is osteoarthritis?
In 2021, more than 1.7 billion people worldwide suffered from musculoskeletal disorders2. Among these conditions, osteoarthritis
is one of the most common, especially with age. It manifests itself as chronic pain, decreased mobility, and progressive loss of
joint function.
Osteoarthritis can also affect athletes and active people. Repeated exertion, impact, and intensive movements place a heavy strain on the joints, which can lead to premature wear and tear. The knees, hips, ankles, and elbows are among the areas most frequently affected.
What are the risk factors?
Several factors can contribute to the onset of joint pain and osteoarthritis:
- Age: natural wear and tear on cartilage increases with age, particularly after 65.
- Intensive sports: certain sports place significant stress on the joints.
- Excess weight: being overweight puts increased pressure on weight-bearing joints.
- Genetics: certain family predispositions may play a role.
- Gender: women, especially after menopause, are more prone to joint problems.
How can symptoms be relieved?
Various complementary measures can help reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis: taking targeted dietary supplements such as Xelflex®, losing weight, strength training, or taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while being vigilant about their side effects.
Xelflex®, a bioactive ingredient for joint health with proven efficacy
Xelflex® is a milk protein hydrolysate that contributes to joint comfort thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Manufactured in France, this naturally sourced bioactive ingredient has no toxicity or side effects.
Its effectiveness on joint inflammation has been scientifically proven.
An in vitro study showed its inhibitory effect on the following cytokines: IL-10, IL-1β, and TNF-α. The study highlighted anti-inflammatory effects similar to those of dexamethasone. In addition, a preclinical study was conducted on arthritic mice suffering from knee edema.
Its anti-inflammatory action was demonstrated by a significant reduction in the size of the edema.
Consumers satisfied with the benefits
A consumer study conducted among 65 seniors and 65 athletes suffering from joint discomfort revealed significant results in terms of pain reduction, improved mobility, improved quality of life, and improved post-exercise recovery. A total of 8 out of 10 consumers are satisfied with the effectiveness of Xelflex®.
