Stress affects their health

Stress is not an illness but a natural response to an unusual event.

Cats and dogs are pets that are stressed by changes in daily routine, territories, or new social interactions:
- Travel
- Veterinarian visits
- Newborns
- Newly adopted pets

Prolonged anxiety can also impact our companion's immune system and lead to increased cortisol release. This can lead to the onset of chronic illnesses.

Physical activity is a solution that can reduce stress and its symptoms, but pets don't always have the opportunity, especially those living in an apartment or being left alone during the day. Faced with anxiety and its symptoms, natural and unique solutions exist to help your pet (dog, cat, etc.) gain serenity.

Lactium®, a unique and natural response to stress management

As with humans, an animal must have a good balance between natural stress that helps them react to life's challenges and excessive stress that triggers or worsens disorders. Anxiety can have an impact on :
Gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. diarrheas)
Elimination issues (e.g. feline idiopathic cystitis)
Eating disorders (e.g. loss of appetite)
Adjustment difficulties, leading to behavioral problems
Skin issues (such as alopecia from overgrooming
Immunity weakening
Lactium® is a milk protein hydrolyzate containing a bioactive decapeptide with calming properties, α-casozepine. This unique and natural ingredient is used in complete and complementary pet foods.

It was discovered by Ingredia in collaboration with the University of Nancy and has been helping animals such as dogs and cats reduce stress-related symptoms for over 20 years.

Thanks to its mechanism of action at the central nervous system level, Lactium® reduces stress-related symptoms. It acts via GABAA receptors in the brain.

Lactium® is already present in several pet foods and supplements on the health market. It is of natural origin, has no side effects, and is safe for your pet.

A clinically proven natural origin ingredient

Lactium® was discovered by observing the calm state experienced by infants after drinking milk. This bioactive ingredient is the result of more than 10 years of research and development. 7 clinical studies conducted between 2007 and 2024 on dogs, cats, and horses attest to its effectiveness.

Canine/feline studies

After chronic supplementation for 5 to 8 weeks, an improvement in the behavior of anxious dogs/cats was observed (reduced fear and aggression). This result was observed by veterinarians using validated questionnaires.

Physiological parameters related to stress were studied, and a significant decrease in cortisol (stress hormone) levels was observed.

Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) is the most common cause of urinary tract disease in cats. Stress is one of the risk factors for recurrence of this disease. A significant decrease in FIC recurrence episodes was observed in the group receiving a therapeutic diet with Lactium®.

Equine studies

During transport and the horse's readjustment to its new environment, anxious behavior was significantly reduced with Lactium®.
